Today is street sweeping but I need to load the van for a trip. I’m not lugging all of my shit halfway down the block on the wrong side of the street.

Figured statistically it was better to risk the 1% chance of a $75 parked-in-yard ticket versus the 100% chance of a $50 parked-in-front-of-my-house ticket.

They give you tickets for parking i n your yard there? Aside from hoping to keep David Tracy from moving in, why?

David Tracy is precisely the reason.

“oh? park in yard is a thing? sowwy officer”

realistically though, the park in yard (if not done often) is unlikely to get you a fine the first time.

can always tell them you were planning to wash the van, and wanted to make sure the run off water went onto grass instead of being wasted just flowing down the street.

In my neighborhood having just one car in the yard is considered good for property values.

You’re not a bad neighbour until you take the wheels off, set it on cinder blocks, and let it rust out for a year or so.

That’s a take I haven’t heard before. Though I’m not sure it’s a good one, might just mean cyclists and pedestrians getting hit by cars going to/from lawns.

The drivers can hopefully look both ways before entering the street.

I didn't even know getting tickets for parking in your yard was a thing. I live in a medium sized suburb and the city hasn't ever said anything about the two SUVs in my backyard. Of course, we share a driveway with a neighbor, so it's the only way any of us can get in and out.

Always starts with 1. Soon, you’ll have a project car under a tarp, couple of blocks, 4 Jeeps, and you’ll start calling yourself David for some reason.

My city will ticket anything without a current registration that's parked in plain view, including the lawn or driveway.

That i s a bit more common, and slightly more reasonable.

I park my tent trailer on my front lawn. Have been for ten years. It has a cover over it. One day I got a letter in the mail from the County telling me to move it. Someone had filed a report. Same day, or next day, someone left a handwritten card on my door asking me if I’d like to sell it. What a coincidence, eh?

That is so dumb. I can park in my ditch if I want to.  Upside down too :P

I feel like a fine for doing something on your own property is perhaps slightly just a little bit unconstitutional .

Considering how many people around here don't know how to use a garbage can or an ashtray, and don't know what an auto body shop does, I can imagine how bad things would get if derelict cars were allowed to start accumulating.

You can get a ticket for parking in your own yard? Yikes.

I’m glad I live in rural western Kentucky surrounded by cornfields. I can’t imagine someone telling me not to park in my yard.

I got a blight notice because someone complained I park one of my cars on my grass next to my driveway. They also gave me a notice that the lawn was too long even though I mowed it the day of the citation. So now I’m thinking of mowing my lawn at 5am just to piss off whoever called and complained I park a car on the grass.
